DescriptionWatercolour of HMAS PERTH by Ernest Clegg painted when the ship was in New York City for the World's Fair in 1939.
HistoryHMAS PERTH was in New York to represent Australia at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
SignificanceThis watercolour depicts the very early years of the career of HMAS PERTH prior to its fatal involvement in World War II when it was lost in the Battle of Sunda Strait. Few quality depictions of the ship are available, and this representation is excellent in its fine detail. The subsequent voyages and actions undertaken by HMAS PERTH reveal its significant role in naval defence.
